You don’t have to live in Seattle to get the inside scoop. Get onboard for a one-of-a kind look at this amazing city through the eyes of a local resident and area expert. Our friendly and informative Seattleite escort will provide historical background, point out interesting landmarks and unveil “insider tips” on secluded shopping and sightseeing areas.
Our tour begins with a drive through downtown en route to historic Pioneer Square, Seattle’s oldest residential area known as the International District. You will also witness firsthand the excitement of Elliott Bay’s maritime activity alongside Seattle’s bustling waterfront.
A stop at the Hiram M. Chittenden Locks will demonstrate how the area’s fresh and salt waters meet. With two navigational locks, a dam and spillway, a fish ladder, a botanical garden, and a regional visitor’s center, the Locks remain the most popular destination along the Lake Washington Ship Canal. The underwater viewing at the adjoining salmon ladders is a sight not to be missed.
For lunch we will dine on the Skyline level of the famous Seattle Space Needle. Built for the 1962 World’s Fair, the tower stands 605 feet (184 meters) tall and boasts 360-degree views of Puget Sound, Mount Rainier, the Cascade and Olympic mountain ranges. The Observation Deck offers complimentary Swarovski telescopes which provide an unforgettable view of Seattle’s commanding sights.
After lunch we will take in the sights and sounds of the Pike Place Market. This nine-acre historic district hosts an estimated 9 million visitors each year who come to experience a feast for the senses and to shop for a diverse array of products. Since its inception in 1907, the Market has remained a vital part of Seattle’s social and economic fabric. For those to wish to stay on to shop or further explore this fascinating area, easy-to-read maps will be provided.
